It can also be used to deliver marketing information to people situated in a given geographical location. This service will need several components to be applicable. There needs to be an application from the service provider, mobile network for transfer of data, someone to provide content, and finally the user with location specifics. The LBS have become more common with the introduction of 3G phones.

The Global Positioning System is another wireless messaging method that is location-related, instead of being specific to recipient. In this type of messaging, it appears as if the messages hang in the air within a certain specified radius of a location. When a mobile user enters that location and is equipped with the required software, they can pick up the messages left there. This service will be very useful in case of emergencies, but tourists passing through an area can leave messages regarding interesting sites that should be visited or good restaurants, places to stay, etc. Even messages about places to be avoided can be left, while workers on a highway can warn the public about traffic obstructions or any hazards they might encounter.

According to the latest research figures, the use of mobile websites is on the rise and will continue to grow steadily in the future. Currently, the most commonly used forms of mobile marketing tactics include MMS and WAP, besides SMS. As major players are set to introduce more applications, their popularity continues to grow. Games are the most widely downloaded application, followed by shopping and social networking.
