Which Smartphone is Right for You?
Smart phones have become immensely popular in the past few years, and it seems that even kids these days have a phone with internet access and a high quality camera. You may know that you want to get one of these phones for all of the great features, but which one is the right choice for you? Let's look at the top three choices in smart phone territory: Blackberry, iPhone, and Android operating systems, and compare them.
For many years, the only available business phone with internet widely available was the Blackberry by RIM Devices. It has a huge following because of this early market share, but is not necessarily the best choice for everyone.
Some of the top benefits of the Blackberry series of devices are:
• Simplicity of the operating system - no getting lost in endless applications and settings.
• Low price and durability of phones. The smaller screen size on most Blackberry models is both a blessing and a curse. They are slightly harder to read, but much less likely to shatter on impact than a truly large screen.
• Ease of texting. Because the keyboard is on the front of the device, texting can be done quickly and easily without sliding anything open, and without relying on a touch screen with no tactile feedback.
Unfortunately, even the brand new Blackberry Torch has an inferior camera and processor, as well as a smaller screen than the iPhone and most Android phones.
The Apple iPhone is the new ubiquitous smart phone in today's market, and with good reason. It sports a wide range of features, including:
• A large, beautiful 3.5" LCD multi-touch glass screen for improved impact resistance.
• The largest application marketplace available for any of the smart phone contenders.
• Access to a great music player interface straight from the iPod touch.
• An extremely responsive CPU and touch screen means a seamless user interface experience.
One unfortunate downside to the iPhone is that it can only be used on AT&T's network, where Blackberry and Android is available on all major carriers. The battery is also non replaceable, and there is a limited selection of phones (just one across generations).
The newest contender to the smart phone market is the Android operating system by Google. It has a number of benefits to its name:
• The app market is open, meaning anyone can submit an application for free to Google for review.
• A huge selection of phones across all four major carriers
• An extremely customizable interface with a huge number of options for the tech savvy user
• Generally have a large, LCD touch screen. Newer android phones have multi touch capability
One downside to Android is that there are so many different phones. Because of this, some newer applications will not work on older models, and some older phones cannot be updated to the newest version of Android.
All three smart phone options are a great choice, and which one you choose rests in your hands.
